This free teacher's guide will show you how to get started with 40 kid-friendly symbols; and then use the links to download the master artwork, practice drawing sheets, and bulletin board art to make it easy to introduce these to your students right away.
These Kcons are symbols that kindergarten students will use to help them navigate the classroom and become more productive and self-reliant. After each student has chosen one for the year, their Kcons are included next to names on class rosters or learning center assignments, and can be used on bulletin boards, centers helper lists, classroom jobs chart, or any of a dozen other displays.
"One thing I like about using Kcons is that my students are able to read the Kcons of the students who are in their buddy group. Before Kcons, this wasn't possible. Even when every student could read and write his own name, he wasn't always able to read the names of other students. With Kcons, it's easy for even the lowest reader to identify other students."
--Shelley Foster, Kindergarten Teacher
As you will see in the section below, the artwork has been designed so that each student will be able to reproduce his own Kcon with a pencil or crayon.

Kcon Master Sheet
Although there is a one-page sheet that shows all 40 Kcons in the eBook, a copy is available here.
Kcon images
Here is the link to the individual Kcon image files.
Kcon Bulletin Board Artwork
Here's a ten-page PDF document that has all 40 Kcons in 4-inch size. They're designed to be copied and used for bulletin board displays.
Kcon Drawing Sheets
These practice sheets will help students learn to draw their Kcons. Download them here.
We've grouped the Kcons into 5 sets based upon the difficulty of drawing them. Each page has 8 Kcons with slowly fading copies of the Kcon to the right of the original image. The idea is to have students trace over the faded copies and then draw it in the blank space on the right side of the sheet. With practice, students will become more confident in reproducing their Kcon.
Feedback from teachers:
"I took the crown Kcon as my own Kcon. After all, I am the queen of the classroom."
"It's so easy now for busy parents to find their child's work on a crowded bulletin board. The Kcon really stands out."
"I like that students who really struggle to write their names on their papers can quickly and easily draw their Kcons. I know they will slowly get better at writing their names, but it's nice to see some of them use the Kcon and not get so frustrated. I want writing to be something they like to do."
